Night of worship praying for healing and believing God to bring revival in our community and world
Merry Christmas from Meadowbrook and may you have peace and joy knowing the savior is with us!
He is…the Alpha and Omega “In the beginning” are the first words of the Bible and “come, Lord Jesus” are nearly its last words. Advent is the season of expectant waiting and preparing for the “coming”. We celebrate His arrival at His birth and we prepare for Him to return again. We live with expectant hope. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. The One “who is and who was and who is to come.” History starts and ends with Jesus. Not only did He write the story, He entered the story to rewrite our stories. His coming brought us life. It’s His birth and our eternal life that we encourage you to celebrate with us today. Join us for our beautiful Christmas Eve service today “Carols, Candlelight & Communion” at either 4:00 or 5:30 PM. We hope to see you there! We encourage you to invite someone and come out to celebrate Him. As we wind up these 12 days of “He Is”, it’s our hope that your heart has been reminded of the gift we have in Jesus! If you are able to join us today, share with us later tonight what was special to you. Take a picture at the photo backdrop in the lobby or around one of the beautiful trees and share it with us! Again, we hope to have you join us. Thank you to Tracye Goad for writing each of these devotions each day. We hope this has been a blessing to you and your family! We will see you tonight.
Join us tomorrow for a wonderful service of reflection, communion, and candle lighting. This service is open to families. Childcare will be provided for 3 and under.
He is…The Good Shepherd “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:14-15 A good shepherd’s primary responsibility is the welfare of his flock, providing for their needs and protecting them from harm. Jesus, our Good Shepherd, took that role seriously, even to the point of His death on our behalf. Willingly. In Isaiah 40, it speaks of how He gently gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. Psalm 23 tells us that because He is our Shepherd we have all we need. There’s so much comfort in those scriptures. Aside from His willingness to give up His very own life, perhaps the most beautiful part of this shepherd is that He knows us. If one single sheep is lost out of a hundred, He will seek out the one and rejoice over it being found. I am that one. You are that one. He searches for us until we are found. We aren’t insignificant, we matter to Him. In a typical herd of sheep, more than one shepherd’s flock will be present, but amazingly they know the voice of THEIR shepherd and only answer to their owner’s call. We can know His voice and He knows ours. There’s something so very comforting about being so intimately known. Isn’t there a deep need in our hearts to be TRULY known, to matter, to be heard? A mother or father knows the sound of his or her child’s voice so well that they can pick it out over many other voices in a crowd. Our Good Shepherd knows each of us that well and He longs for us to know His voice as well. He desires a relationship. Not only does He know us, He loves us so much that He sacrificed His life for ours. Today’s challenge is to just be still and quiet. Take time to connect with The Shepherd. As tomorrow brings our Christmas Eve service celebrating the gift of our Savior’s birth, let’s prepare our hearts. Thank Him for seeking you out when you were lost. Praise Him for being your Good Shepherd. Reflect on being KNOWN and get to know Him even more. If you don’t have a relationship with Christ and want to know more, please let us know. We’d love to share more about how He is our Good Shepherd and the true meaning of Christmas.
He is…Light of the World “The light of Christ is the brightness of God shining on the retina of the human soul.”-John Piper In the dark of night in Bethlehem, the light of the world was born. The message of Christmas is exactly that: Jesus came to BE the light of the world. He is our beacon of hope, leading our hearts out of spiritual darkness. The reason He was born was to shine light into the darkness. “…I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”(John 8:12) With His light in our hearts, our purpose is to reflect His light on a broken world. We are meant to shine for Him! For life to be sustained, it needs a source of light. Put a thriving plant in the dark and it won’t take long for it to shrivel away. Jesus is our source of life because He IS the light. As we share the light of Him in our lives, it draws others to the Light of the World as well. Have you ever been in a darkened room or perhaps even in a cave and lit just a single match? No matter how expansive the darkness, the light overtakes. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of the light.” (Ephesians 5:8). When we look to Him, we are radiant! His light brought us out of darkness and by sharing that light within us, we lead others to our true source of life. One of the joys of Christmas is LIGHT. We use beautiful twinkling lights to decorate our trees and even outside our homes. We may cozy up to a warm fireplace and watch the glowing embers. It’s also a time of year that we may fill our homes with fragrant candles or light candles with our families as we observe advent. A highlight of the holiday is our Candlelight & Communion service on Christmas Eve (4:00 and 5:30). There is something so incredibly holy and peaceful to watch those candles being lit one by one. A great thing to do tonight might be to gather your loved ones, grab some hot chocolate, turn on some favorite Christmas music and take a drive. Look at the Christmas lights out around town. Maybe even take a drive down Candlestick Lane! Make it extra fun and print off a scavenger hunt list and make it a game for the kids (or adults)! Share with us your favorite place to see lights! Better yet, share your favorite photos of your Christmas tree all aglow, your outside light display or your favorite candlelit scenery. Let’s see those lights!
He is…Lamb of God “…behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) He paid a debt He did not owe to pay a debt we could never pay. Because of His innocent blood shed on our behalf, we can draw near to God. Though without sin and completely perfect, Jesus exchanged His crown of glory for a crown of thorns. Because of His unparalleled sacrifice on the cross, the ultimate act of love, we have eternal life. “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 There’s something incredibly special about a good ground covering snowfall. There’s beauty in the simplicity of the white that covers everything underneath. It’s a visual reminder of how that beautiful white is the same as what happens to our filthy, sinful hearts with the sacrifice Christ made. We’re purified and made clean. Have you ever stopped to think of how many individual, intricately designed and unique snowflakes it takes to blanket the ground? Mind-blowing! It’s in that same awe to think of how He loves us individually and intimately, knowing us personally in the vastness of humanity. Such a miraculous wonder of God! A perfect sacrificial lamb, innocent and pure, has taken each of our individual places. It was His love that held Him to the cross on our behalf. That’s who Jesus is! Share with us your favorite snow picture! Let us all see some of that beautiful, blanketing white as we reflect on how our hearts are just as that snow because of Christ.
"Our finest gifts we bring, to lay before our King" Little Drummer Boy We have come to worship the King who is born to us as our savior! What a wonderful service of worship this past Sunday at Meadowbrook.
He is…Jesus Jesus, the name above all names. Jesus, the name most recognized throughout history. There will come a day that at His name every knee will bow and confess Him as Lord. At His birth, there was no room for Him in the inn. Mary and Joseph were turned away. This is the perfect time to stop and reflect on our own lives. Are we making room for Him in our hearts and our homes? Are we turning Him away or welcoming Him with open arms? Do we live our lives with a posture of, “Jesus, you are welcome here”? We spend so much of our time, energy, and budgets this time of year on gifts. Whether we shop from the comfort of our homes online, make heartfelt homemade gifts, or brave the crowds to shop store to store, we look for that perfect gift. We get it home and dig out all the colorful paper, shiny ribbons and bows, or decorative bags and crinkly tissue paper. The thing about gifts is that they are meant for sharing. We don’t just buy a gift, wrap it and then hold on to it forever. We lovingly give the gift to the one we’ve chosen it for. Jesus is our gift. He is THE gift. Once we receive Him into our hearts, that gift is then meant to be shared. We can’t hold Him all to ourselves. Sharing Jesus is the biggest gift we can give to others. Today, let’s all be challenged to find a way to share Him with others. Invite that co-worker or neighbor to join us at our Christmas Eve service just days away. Do a random act of kindness. Share His love. The gesture doesn’t have to be grand. Maybe it’s as simple as baking some cookies and walking across the street to that lonely neighbor. Baking cookies together is something that kids can easily be involved with and not only are they getting the gift of our time spent together, but they are also learning that they are never too young to give and share Jesus! Speaking of cookies, share with us your favorite recipe! Or tell us a random act of kindness you like to do this time of year. Let’s all be inspired to share the gift of Jesus.
He is…Savior But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11) Joy. That’s what Christmas is all about. Joy was born that night. The One they had been waiting for was coming! The One we each also need. Because of Him, we can be forgiven of our sins and reconciled to God the Father. Because of Him, we have unending, genuine, overwhelming joy. In Him we have salvation. Our Savior, Messiah, Christ the Lord. THAT is the good news of Christmas. THAT is news worth sharing! “It’s Christmas! The angels are singing and I know the reason. The Savior is born. It’s Christmas! The bells are ringing and I feel like shouting, ‘Joy to the World’! Earlier we reflected upon and shared our favorite worship songs that showed our gratitude towards our Almighty God. Today, let’s share our favorite Christmas carols. What Christmas song about our Savior brings you the most joy?
